This dish is remarkably easy to prepare yet brimming with savory aromas, thanks to its gentle spices and flavorful broth. Ingredients
- Basmati Rice : 200 grams
- Onion : 1
- Unsalted butter : 2 tablespoons
- Chicken broth : 400 milliliters
- Cardamom (Pods) : 2
- Bay Leaves (Leaves) : 1
- Cumin seeds : 1/2 teaspoon
- Turmeric : 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt : 1 pinch
- Pepper : 1 pinch
- Cilantro : To Taste
Preparation steps
-
Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch. Drain and set aside.
Heat the broth and keep it warm. -
In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, melt the butter (or heat the oil) over medium heat.
Add the sliced onion and sauté for 2 to 3 minutes until it becomes translucent.
Add the cumin seeds, cardamom, and bay leaf. Sauté for 1 minute to release their aromas. -
Add the drained rice and mix well to coat it with the spices.
Sauté for 2 minutes, stirring to slightly toast the rice. -
Pour in the hot broth, add the turmeric, salt, and pepper.
Bring to a boil, then cover with a tight-fitting lid.
Reduce the heat to low and let it cook for 12 to 15 minutes until the rice has absorbed all the liquid.
Remove from heat and let it rest for 5 minutes without lifting the lid.
